Anthony
Davidson makes his Grand Prix debut in Hungary on Sunday for Minardi
having had to borrow a pair of overalls, the Formula One™ racing
debutant disclosed on Friday.
The Briton was on vacation in Finland with
his girlfriend when he received the call-up to replace Minardo's Alex
Yoong last weekend - leaving him no time to get kitted out.
"The problem is that the factory in Italy
which supplies overalls is on holiday," news agency AFP
reported him as saying in The Times newspaper. "So I might have
to borrow some from a mechanic or somebody."
One person he won't be asking is Justin
Wilson, Minardi's first choice to replace the absent Yoong but ruled
out as at 6ft 3in (1.9 metres) he is too big for the tight confines of
the narrow Minardo cockpit.
"There was no chance of his race suit fitting
me," Davidson said.
Although this is Davidson's debut race he is
no stranger to hurling a car very fast around tight tracks having
clocked up 8,000 miles this year alone in his capacity as test driver
for the BAR Formula 1 team.
He started competitive racing at the age of
eight and has graduated up from kart racing to the British Formula
Three championship in which he finished second last year.
Davidson has been handed the chance to
realise what he has called a childhood dream, while Yoong undergoes a
course of intensive training in a bid to improve his race performance.
The Malaysian is due to return to the track
for the last three grand prix of the season.
