The
future of Minardi driver Mark Webber is expected to be announced
sometime this week, the Australian racer strongly linked with a
switch to the Jaguar Racing outfit to take over from F1 veteran,
Eddie Irvine. While this move has been expected since Webber
completed a test for the Milton Keyes outfit earlier this season,
the announcement has been a long time coming.
Current boss Paul Stoddart will be sad to see his fellow
countryman leave the team, however he knows that it will only
benefit Mark's future in the sport……
"I think there's a fair chance that we will lose him and I'm not
afraid of losing Mark,”
Stoddart said recently.
"I need him to go on and do bigger and better things, he's very
much a driver that I feel personally involved with and secondly we
have got a good track record of bringing on one a year and I
rather like that."
Reports in the Australian press indicate that the deal with Jaguar
is already signed and it's only a matter of time before the team
announce their 2003 line-up of Mark Webber and Pedro de la Rosa.
However, there is still the Ford/Jaguar/Jordan issue causing some
confusion over the squads future, despite the fact that buy out
rumours have been denied.
