“We had a pretty good day, working through our normal technical programme, and also went through a tyre assessment for Michelin. The guys did a great job sorting a problem with the rear of the car early in the second session, although we did lose a bit of track time as a result. We’re looking forward to making further progress tomorrow.”

Qualifying

Position: 20 No. of laps: 12
Time: 1 min 32.996 secs Chassis: PS02/04
“We did some useful work on the car this morning and that was reflected in our best lap time. As ever with Grand Prix weekends, however, you have to wait until qualifying to see how much more the other teams may have in reserve. I would also have liked to get a little more out of myself this afternoon – I was perhaps trying just a bit too hard in places. Overall, though, it was a good session, I learned a lot, and now we’ll aim to have a strong race tomorrow.”

Race

“I made a good start and took a few people going into turn one and on the exit as we were avoiding the spinning Jordans. The next 18 laps or so were just unbelievable as I found myself fighting a big chassis balance problem. After the first of my two pit stops, however, and with a new set of tyres fitted, the situation improved massively and we set some good lap times. We made progress in the middle of the race and then, in the final stint, things were also working well for us. I guess you could say I enjoyed laps 20 to 60, but not one to 19.”
