“Magny-Cours has proved to be a somewhat
difficult track to get our car behaving as we want it to through a
complete lap, although I think this proved to be the case for many
people today. There is no doubt that the requirement to optimise the
car for the mixture of very slow turns as well as the high-speed
Estoril corner is a challenge. All of that said, however, I did enjoy
my first run in a Formula One car around here, my most recent previous
experience being in F3000. Both our boys and the Asiatech guys did a
lot of work between the two sessions, improving the car usefully as a
result, and we also completed our normal tyre comparison runs with the
Michelins that are available this weekend.” |

“All in all, it has been a frustrating day.
I didn’t get any timed laps in the first practice session this morning
because of a small hydraulic problem. We recovered well in the second
session, though, and collected some useful data. We then put
everything on the car ready for qualifying. The first run of the
afternoon worked well and we were happy in the knowledge that we had a
good ‘banker’ in our back pocket. Unfortunately, on the ‘in’ lap from
that run, a fuel pressure problem cropped up. I then did one run in
the spare car, although it was to a different specification compared
with the race car. That proved to be my last run, but we’ll be back
tomorrow!” |

“This turned out to be a really good race
for us. We made some adjustments to the car after this morning’s
warm-up, and the guys engineered a little treat for us. The boys did a
great job on the pit stops, and I really concentrated on ensuring that
my ‘in’ and ‘out’ laps were strong so that we could do some damage to
the other guys on track position. It just all came together in a
really satisfying race.” |
