“It wasn’t really an enjoyable session for us today. We tried to collect as much information as we could for Sunday, and we actually had quite a lot of fuel in the car. We had a small gearbox problem towards the end of the second session, and therefore weren’t able to carry out our normal tyre comparison. Tomorrow’s a new day, though, and we’ll check everything overnight and see where we can improve a little bit. As it is a new track layout here at Hockenheim this year, I’m sure there is scope to make some useful progress.”

Qualifying

Position: 21 No. of laps: 11
Time: 1 min 17.996 secs Chassis: PS02/04
“We maximised everything we could today. It would have been nice to have completed that last run this afternoon, but the traffic meant there was no way we were going to improve. It’s the same for everybody, though – you get four runs in qualifying. On the positive side, the car ran very reliably, we put in a lot of laps, and the guys did a good job. This has proved to be a tough circuit for us, but now we’ll just concentrate on our preparations for tomorrow’s race.”

“It is a real shame for us because we planned on Friday to pick the hard tyre and to have a really hot race, because we knew that was coming. We set the car up to look after the rear tyres as well as possible, and again the guys gave me a great little race car to compete with here today. We were keeping up with, and racing, a train of cars that included Toyota, Arrows, Jordan and Sauber. For the first time really this year, we had a problem which we’ve never seen before, although we now have a good understanding why we lost the hydraulic pressure. Anyway, problems like this occur in racing, and we now look forward to Budapest. It’s also good the guys will have a break over the next couple of weeks, because they really deserve it.”
