“It was not a very good day from my point of
view, but it can happen very easily on Fridays when, unfortunately, you
cannot use the T-car. I made a mistake in the first session and finished in
the gravel, and then we had an engine problem in the second session, when I
had just gone for my first lap out of the pits. We therefore have done only
two timed laps. Obviously, I would have liked to get into the circuit a bit
more as it looks like a challenging track, but now I’m looking forward to
tomorrow.”

“This actually was the first real F1 qualifying
session I have completed, since Melbourne was a bit of a mixed- up affair. I
have enjoyed the track a lot, although I still want to improve a little bit
in myself in terms of getting more from qualifying. It’s something I will be
working on. Still, the guys did a great job and we have largely been able to
recover what we lost in terms of running time yesterday.”

“It looks like we had a problem with the car in
the end. The one-stop pit strategy was working well, and although it made
the car very heavy at the beginning of the race and it was not too easy to
drive, I knew if we could get through that stage, then we might pick off
some people. I wasn’t too sure how our competitors’ tyres were standing up
either, so it seemed like there was a chance we could get a useful result. I
just kept pressing on and, ultimately, got some good experience here in
Malaysia. The guys did a great job on what has been a hard weekend and a
very hot weekend for everybody. It’s a shame we weren’t able to finish in
the top 10, which would have been a reward for all the effort expended, but
I’m now just looking forward to the next race, at Interlagos.” |
