Practice

Position: 15 No. of laps: 47
Time: 1 min 15.629 secs Chassis: PS02/04
“We had a good run today. We did a lot of laps, which helped us to get some good information. It is the first time here for me and I enjoyed the circuit a lot. We will look through all the data tonight and aim to make some improvements for tomorrow’s morning session, ready for qualifying. As usual, we have fuel to take out for tomorrow. Overall, it has been a good session and the times are very close. There are no really quick corners here – it’s a collection of slower corners and then just the long straight. We therefore have to look at making the best compromise we can on chassis set-up.”

Qualifying

Position: 18 No. of laps: 12
Time: 1 min 13.128 secs Chassis: PS02/04
“This was the most difficult qualifying session of the year for us in terms of getting what we wanted from the car. Normally, we have a good grip on things by the time we go into qualifying. Due to the problem we had in practice, though, it meant the last time we ran on new tyres before qualifying was at 9:30 this morning, and the track conditions changed completely in between. It really was a different race track this afternoon, and although I would have liked to qualify in the 1-minute-12-second-bracket, under the circumstances, the result was good. It is also a great tribute to the guys that we start ahead of Salo’s Toyota tomorrow, bearing in mind they did a complete engine and gearbox change between practice and qualifying.”

Race

DNF (lap 40) Fastest lap: 1 min 15.367 secs No. of laps: 39
Time: 48:51.145 Chassis: PS02/04
“It was going really well for us. We had a good first few laps and were particularly strong in the infield section of the track, but there was just no opportunity to overtake. On the straight, the guys in front had slightly better top speed. Even so, we were having a strong race, but then a problem developed with the steering. It’s a pity, but all we can do now is look forward to the final Grand Prix of the year, in Japan.”
